MENSA SERBIA
Mensa Srbije is a High IQ society, national branch of the international organization Mensa International, which has in total over 140.000 members worldwide. Mensa Srbije has between 1.200 and 1.400 members per year, living all around Serbia. The age range of members is 17 – 80, and for children and teenagers Mensa Serbia has its department for activities with children and youth. It is an organization based exclusively on volunteer work ; it has no employed
staff.
The Presidency Board consists of 7 members, and the number of active volunteers working on temporary or regular assignments within the organization is between 40 and 50. The aims of Mensa are the use of intelligence to the benefit of society, as well as the exchange of experience and knowledge among members and help in the development of intellectual potentials and key skills. Another important goal is to create stimulating intellectual environment for its members. And that is where this project idea came from. Given that young people are joining Mensa Srbije mostly as teenagers, they are not familiar with the concept of volunteering and contributing to the society – either the organization itself or the local society they live in.
Furthermore, no matter how intelligent the members of Mensa are, the young members still have difficulties finding appropriate employment when they complete their education. The management of the organization has therefore decided to involve in this Erasmus project and provide young members with the training to develop 21st century skills and opportunities to become responsible members of the society – that’s how the idea came for this project.
Mensa Serbia will employ its extensive experience in the organization of international and national events and will be the leader for PR4.
